BMW RKE: RKE stands for Remote Keyless Entry, which enables remote control of vehicle equipment such as doors, windows, and trunk. This requirement applies to BMW car keys, which is the first RKE solution for this project. It aims to design the use of control interaction for BMW cars on Vivo Wallet, following Vivo's design UI principles.

Understand

Context

Project Brief: This is the UX Design Internship project that I did in Vivo. The goal of this project was to create a 0-1 solution to help users effectively use the Car control app on the Vivo phone. Compared with the physical car keys, an increased number of users are starting to use the digital car key. As vivo collaborates with more and more car companies, in this project, we aimed to build the design foundation of the car key which can also used in other car brandings.

Problem Definition

Out of the many issues identified, 2 stood out as clear problems for guests and the business:

  • Operational efficiency: RKE aims to help users operate car keys more conveniently, and it is necessary to ensure the simplicity and efficiency of its operation during use.

  • Complex Internet conditions: Different internet conditions will influence the usage of the car, such as the seamless unlocking+car control Bluetooth key. Internet errors also influence usage.

I have conceptualized the main page of the car control interface, and the following operations are based on this page's design

Based on the design requirements provided by BMW, buttons need to be defined as one-way buttons and two-way buttons.

We conducted a competitive analysis of other car companies and analyzed the functions of car control apps. We brainstormed the usage form of car control buttons, as shown in the figure. We attempted to use buttons for bidirectional switches, using the sliding of buttons to represent the on/off status of the air conditioning.

Based on brainstorming in the early stages, usability testing was conducted to assess everyone's understanding of buttons and whether there would be cognitive biases caused by different buttons. Finally, the following plan was selected as the final solution.

#Scanning page

#Activate a digital card

We have designed a process for new users to unlock BMW car keys, including how to match the card with the car and the system's authorization process for Bluetooth car keys

Selected Solution

#Bluetooth car key

When users are confused about how to use the car key, they can open the usage help to conduct relevant research. And in the negative screen, it will also improve the convenient operation mode, opening more can be viewed

#Enter the card swiping page process

After opening the card, the user enters the car key swipe page and undergoes password verification and other operations before it can be fully used. And the backend will determine the vehicle control situation and the status of mobile phone connectivity. Here, only partial display of abnormal states is provided., Including how to pair with the car when opening the card and the system's authorization process for Bluetooth car keys

#Vehicle condition display

Considering that future car companies can reuse the interactive logic of the panel, the panel's extensibility has been redesigned, including different types of cars. The core functions of gasoline powered vehicles, electric vehicles, hybrid vehicles, etc. were demonstrated.
